Improving Your Putting Skills

With the right putting skills you can improve your golf game significantly. The grip you use, the positioning of the body on the green and the length of the swing are all going to be important factors.

The grip is the first thing that you should consider for your putting skills. First, the grip will need to be one that you are comfortable with. With a more comfortable grip you will be able to control your putter at a greater level. Your left index finger should overlap the right index finger for your grip, but some golfers like the have the index finger overlap multiple fingers.

The thumbs are another important part of the grip. The thumbs should be down the front of the shaft and the hands should be on top of the club. Gripping low on the shaft is not good for your putting skills because the club would have to be swung at a greater distance in the even that your hands are too low on it.

The positioning of the feet is also important for your putting skills. The feet should be apart by shoulder width, and the arms should be close to the body with the eyes right over the ball.

The knees should be bent slightly when you are over the ball. The elbows should be bent too so that you will be able to have a swing that is at a better motion.

The length of the swing is important in your putting skills. The length should be based on the distance of the putt that you will be making. The length of the swing will be different based on the distance between the ball and the hole, but the mechanics that you will use for the swing will still be the same regardless of distance.

The line up for the putt is also essential for your putting skills. If there is a break in the green you will need to change your target. For instance, a break to the right will require you to move your target up over the hole. The distance above the hole will depend on the break level. Also, the putter head should be square to the place where you see the break going to occur at.

Practice putting before your round is another part of improving your putting skills. Practice putts closer to the hole are recommended so that you can get a stroke that you will feel more comfortable with. You should keep moving back to make sure that the stroke will work for longer putts as well so that you can get more long putts or at least get your ball closer to the hole in these situations.

These are all important putting strategies that you should use for your putting skills. The positions, length, grip and stroke are all important and can easily improve not only your putting skills but also your overall golf scores.
