Alaska Ski Vacations

When you think of Alaska do you think of a desolate wilderness with Eskimos and igloos? Did you know that they have one of the largest mountains, MT. McKinley and of the nation’s 20 highest mountains, 17 are in Alaska. It is actually a very popular vacation destination because of it’s beauty and the multitude of activities.

Alaska, which is known as one of the most beautiful places on earth has great skiing! The land mass is over 570,000 and there is 45, 000 square miles of water. Alaska covers 20% of the total US. Also, there are over 5,000 glaciers. A particularly desirable resort, the Alyeska Resort is known for skiing due to the high level of elevation and the amount of snow. The resort boasts of breath taking views which is just forty miles from Anchorage, Alaska. It is known for pure wilderness and luxury at the same time. Where else can you find the wealth of beauty and activity in one central location. It is the destination place.

This is a particularly remote area that is very accessible but never over crowded. There is never a wait for lifts or the cable car. Altogether, there are more than 60 trails for any level skier. The trails are designed for beginners to intermediate to advances skiers as well as snow boarders. They offer lessons for beginners to advances skiers and snow boarders.

This resort does allow skiing at night which can be very challenging but, absolutely beautiful when the lights are reflecting off the snow. It is known for the Northern Lights and gorgeous scenery! It is listed as one of the top ten ski resorts by Ski Magazine.

The ski season begins in November and extends through April. Alaska skiing is particularly envied because of the 16 hours of daylight. Where else on earth can you ski for 16 hours at a time? During the month of December there are approximately 8 hours of daylight, which makes nighttime skiing very pleasurable as the resort is decorated for the holidays.

The Alyeska has a luxurious hotel. The resort hotel is known for gorgeous rooms, excellent food and nightly entertainment. And the ski resort is within close proximity to the hotel.

If you have interests beyond skiing, there are a multitude of activities to enjoy including tubing, helisking, cruise tours, sledding, camping, fishing, climbing, hunting, white water rafting, golf , dog sledding and nature walks. The park nearby, Glacier Park is known for its beautiful views and variety of activities.

Enjoy the beauty of the ski slopes, mountains and trails and return to the resort for a swim or enjoy a relaxing time in the hot tub or swimming pool.
